You see the problem is and always will be finding a suitable terrain. No map and i mean no map is perfect. The current default Europe+ has the most perfect terrains and it took billions of years of changing for it to end up this way. In another 1000 years most of it will be underwater. If you provide a suitable map I am sure we will be able to get a good enough 1vs1 map for AtWar.

Back when the custom maps were introduced I worked on something in Photoshop, but it never got out of concept stage because I was to lazy to actually finish it in the map editor. (And because I don't expect anyone to actually play it)
I guess it wouldn't be valuable enough to become a standard one on one map, though.

Players would start with 5k and the region income would be on west/central European level.
Red dots are capitals, yellow dots usual cities. I didn't think about the quantity of reinforcements yet.

Edit: I removed the /img code because the image was way to large for the board layout.

If the incomes were balanced, the middle east map would be pretty good.

This isn't a mirror map though, which is the whole point.
The map has to be perfectly symmetric.

The Main island is mirrored. It consists 2x http://www.imgup.com/data/images/258.png.
The Island in the middle isnt mirrored though, yes. But that was kind of a design decision.
No player would have an advantage to reach it earlier as the distance is about the same.
But yeah, didn't claim it was perfect.

I wouldn't even say it has to be somehow looking like the real world. It could also look like arena or whatever, all we need is diversity and symmetry.

King if the hill 1 vs 1 version lol.

But anyways a balanced map should also be unbiased towards different strategies. Either each person would pick none or all strategies would need a very equal chance.
I would say Ordnung is very biased against NC, IF, yada yada yada *favours high range and high defense strategies*

I play NC and MOS mostly. kthx.
I think a map doesn't need to be unbiased on strategies, or more like it cant as the impacts of the strategies are very diverse.
A skilled player is supposed to play a range of strategies, to estimate the opponents pick and pick the counter.
If you pick NC on a map with no harbor capitals, it's your own fault.

A map doesn't need to be unbiased on strategies. Unless ofcourse your trying to make a balanced unbiased 1vs1 map e.e I don't play maps that i can't use NC (haven't used a different strategy besides none for the last 400 games and counting!) or actually I play NC czech to often but I don't complain because i don't expect myself not to be a little handicapped by it I think a map can have certain areas where every strategy has a chance to shine and the world map does that so never say never. :p A balnced map shouldn't excluded certain types of players, all players are equals. Excepts ofcourse tophats and noobs xP

No, not even a competitive 1 on 1 map needs to be balanced for all strategies. It is not even possible.
All it needs to do is to give every player the same start and expanding possibilities. If the players mess it up with their unskilled chose of strategy, it is not the maps fault, the map enabled them to do better, but they messed it up.
Like I said before, as a "pro" gamer you are supposed to play different styles. If you are only able to play one style, this is very bad for you and perfect for your enemy.

Also, get your head out of tops ass. Disgusting.

You can't beat europe, its impossible.

Making a mirror map of Europe is doable. Imo its pretty ugly, though and you would have to make something up for the area in the middle. Not even thinking about balancing it, In the end the map itself would probably look somewhat like this:

Btw, another 2on2 mirror map I designed, this time perfectly mirrored for cow xa. It's not really hard to create them, I think the reason it hasn't beend one before is that the majority of players plays the game very casual and not in the mind of competitive gameplay.
