It was not the will of the people. It just looks like it is. In reality, other leaders are taking the reins while the masses are taking the bullets. The only reason why they even express anything is because they were pushed past a certain point, like being hungry all the time etc. So yeah, that's the only will of the "people" : Don't make us starve
Other than that they have no choice and they will do what they are told: go die in this war, pray to this god, etc. (result of propaganda, childhood indoctrination, religion, and trauma)

I vote national sovereignty -- within limits. I mean, I don't see anyone complaining about the 1945 Czechoslovak expulsion of over a million Germans. In fact, I happen to fully agree with that expulsion.

But I also believe that it is the natural right of every person to not be arbitrarily deprived of residency. Such expulsion is only acceptable if some other country is willing to take them.
