In light of Martell announcing that he is going to take down his RP map, it brings up another important issue, that of how much power a mapmaker should have.

Martell is taking down his map because his ban list is not being respected. The children who played his map would go to moderators because they think that their bans were "unfair" or "unjust" and the moderators would then step in and threaten Martell.

This is a disgusting abuse of moderator's powers. Moderators are here to enforce the AtWar basic rules so that AtWar can be a safe environment and free from spam and trolls. They are not here to regulate mapmakers. Mapmakers are the people who keep this game running, as without their maps, far less people would play AtWar. It is the hard work and creativity of the mapmakers that makes this game special. Moderators stepping in and regulating does not make the game any safer or better, it only causes mapmakers to close down their maps, feel bullied by "big government", and sometimes even flee from the game as the outcome of their hard work is not worth the effort.

Mapmakers should be able to ban people from their maps for whatever reason they want. If the mapmaker is truly abusing his power on banning people, the market will take its course, and the map will not be played as often as there are either too many bans or people do not think highly of the mapmaker. It is not like the maps made are the only ones available, all of them are easily substituted with another map of similar value. If you really think your ban was unjustified, go play another, similar map. The people bitching about being banned from Martell's map can easily go to Tempted's map. If they are banned from both, then my assumption would be that they truly deserved it.

Also, my map is my work and my property. Forcing me to allow people to use my map who I don't want is forcing me to work hard on creating these maps for certain people who I did not voluntarily agree to work for or suffer consequences, which is essentially slavery. You cannot force me to allow people to use my property.

Mapmakers, it's time to stand up for yourselves.

No, you can't ban from maps for personal reasons, but you are free to ban people from your games, or gtfo of atWar since you agreed to follow the rules of atWar when you signed up. Doesn't matter if you like it or not, but one of the rules are that you can't ban for personal reasons.

Define me a personal reason?

Me being an asshole is not justifiable ...but if someone tells me "fuck off you retarded piece of fuckin shit i hope your mother dies from fuckin cancer you fuckin idiot!!!!!"

I ...have to let this person, play on the fruits of my hard work? Who gave this person rights to insult me and enjoy my work?

I want that in the rules aswell, rules that mods didnt give, but insulted everyone with pathetic 23. that they made ...when Columna said they are working on rules i thougth they will give us rules too follow.

What we got is: "fuck you, we made a rule that give us the ability to decide what the rule is". ...and first sentence "map makers can ban anyone bla bla ..." should make it fine.

Dont make me laugh.

You can report insults to the mods, and they will give a suitable punishment.

You do not need to add extra punishment

The rules are rules, and if you don't like them you can quit atWar any time.

> showing me that poor made rule that isnt actually giving map makers the reasons on what is considered offence on which they can ban someone
> rules made so they can be interpreted widely by does who enforce them

I hope this makes it clearer for you.

Offenses:

Leaving early
Breaking map rules

Mapmakers can't ban:

For personal reasons
For breaking rules not listed on map

Also players are innocent until proven guilty.

And it doesn't matter if you think the rules are bad, the moderators are allowed to set rules.
So you either follow them or quit.

so i make a map and the rule is that you cant talk bad about my map or my skills, its a map rule, is it allowed to ban a person who disrespects my map? according to mods it is

You will have to ask the mods, as it is their job to interpret the rules and enforce them as they think is best for the game.

no no no no no, you can not say that atwar runs on a good government where the mods make the rules, then interpret the rules then execute the rules, if mods do not make the rules clear they can not interpret it to their advantage, since they have total control over the rules they should just simply make clear statements and not leave it for interpretation because I will find any loophole they leave

That is your opinion, but it is how it is.

The mods are suposedly the most unbiased and fair persons in atWar, and are certainly better than the mapmakers.
And I have only recieved fair treatment from mods ever, both when it was against me and in favour of me.

Also, you say the mods will interpret the rules to their advantage. Sure, all the mods have friends on atWar and they are biased, but to me it seems like the banlist is something most mods agree should be regulated.
I have not at least seen any mods speaking in favour of giving mapmakers full control.
So what do you think the moderators goal is? The goal that they all seem to interpret rules to reach?

How would that be directly related to the hosted game?

This is my opinion:

Ban for anything happening in chat is a personal reason.

Anything that happends on the actual map, and stuff like allying and sending money is game related.

Sure, scenario sp farmers like your map. But the mods and a large part of the community don't care for it which is why you not making any more maps is an empty threat. Those scenario farmers will move on to the world map when you and the rest stop making maps and they will learn proper game mechanics and how to 3v3. Atwar will continue to live on. The rank 3-7 noobs that like your maps will be pissed, sure. But they will move on or leave the game and all the new members will not even know they existed so they will fall in love with some other map.

Is funny how nobody on atwar other than the mapmakers themselves seem to care that all these maps went missing. Guess everybody can deal with it after all.

The only thing that will come of this 'strike' is that there will be a written statement that mods have full control of revoking bans that you must agree to when you buy premium features that allow you to make maps.

You can ignore me, but banning me from your maps is too much, and you were not chosen to moderate. The mods will deal with it if you get harassed a lot.

Someone doesn't understand freedom of speech. You have the right to not be silenced, but organizations haven he right to stop you from using their property if they don't like what you say, as long as you are not being forcefully censored.

Geschreven door Quantum027, 20.01.2015 at 11:41

Kentucky is basically right here, you can say what you want and I can choose if I want you to say it in my maps, which I chose that you do not need to say that in my map because it is offensive

Geschreven door Quantum027, 11.01.2015 at 23:23

except that we don't need to give you proof of anything, its our maps and we issue the bans

Socrates would be pulling his hair, hearing of your interpretation of freedom of speech and democracy

Geschreven door Quantum027, 20.01.2015 at 11:39

Banned for calling me a fag.

Thanks dear, my cat is already crying

I don't care if Socrates doesn't appove. Freedom of speech gives you the freedom to say what you like without censorship. It doesn't free you from repercussions by individuals who won't let you use their property.
Then that's not real FoS, FoS is stating your opinion and maybe other things, free from punishment.

Another example. If you are working for a company and you leak secrets of the company or trash talk it, you would be fired. That's not violating freedom of speech, that is completely reasonable.
Except FoS doesn't cover that (unless some sort of whistleblowing).

Let's just say that in the practice, freedom of speech is barely applied. That shoulnd't be like that but money and power blinds them.

How would that be directly related to the hosted game?

This is my opinion:

Ban for anything happening in chat is a personal reason.

Anything that happends on the actual map, and stuff like allying and sending money is game related.

So a player says "fuck Swashes piece of shit map, dont join that!" ...is not game related.

For khal who is calling once more upon great freedom of speech ...

Nope, it's freedom from censorship. And other laws limit what you can and cannot say: i.e. hate speech is not protected by freedom of speech.

You guys are right and i agree with you, that freedom of speech is not freedom to hate speech and certainly not freedom from consequences. That being said, consequences are usually of social nature and if they take the form of business nature, they must be justified under some law or written agreement.Kentucky, your maps are not your property in the sense that you think they are, they are not your house, to deny access to whoever you want.Moreso they are not even your business, since you get no revenue from them and you do not get taxed and even if it was, this would fall under discrimination laws.In most states and countries, it is illegal to decline service to a customer based on his nationality, colour, appearance, sexual orientation and he is free to critisize your business as much as he wants. We do not live in the middle ages anymore or in a southern tobacco plantation in the old days.

tldr
you have every right to socially "punish" people exercising their right to free speech, if you do not like what they are saying. This measn you can critisize them back, alienate them, enemylist them and deny them acess to the maps you host and/or ignore them.If you feel their criticism has reached the levels of "hate speech" you can report them to the mods, whereas if enough proof is provided, they will get punished according to aw rules. This is how societies work and aw is/should not be an exception.

Yes, it is not related to any single game, and therefore a personal reason for ban.

It seems like you understood what personal reasons were after all...

Guess what: nobody asked you to make one to begin with.

If nobody wants my maps, then they shouldn't care if I ban them from them.

Because principle.
