Some of you may have already heard the rumours that we're planning to convert atWar to HTML5.
Well, that is all not true... Just kidding, we've actually been quite busy for the past months doing just that (hence the infrequent updates!)
So now, finally, everyone gets a chance to have a sneak peek at our progress. Let me introduce you: the atWar Map Viewer in HTML5! All the maps in player profiles are now clickable, as well as the 'Top maps' on the homepage.

For example, World Map: http://atwar-game.com/map

The new map viewer was tested and should work in the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox and IE (including on tablets and smartphones).
Let us know what you think about it, especially in terms of performance (don't forget to mention your browser & device if you do).

UPDATE: On another news, CWs can now be hosted in the Casual CW room.

Very nice! Could we maybe get scenarios included? Most of my maps are unpublished and simply used as support for my scenarios.

Works great in Safari 7.

Also I want to point out that the html5 process has very little battery impact.

It adds about .5 energy impact to add this safari process (albeit it is just running a vector map)

But that is a lot less compared to the 57.47 energy impact that the silverlight plugin uses in AW.

this make playing at cafes and on batteries much better, and if/when its ported to smartphones/tablets If it doesn't kill their batteries. That is very good!

Greta work Amok.

I noticed a faint gray line that sometimes appears to run through middle of greenland as wells.

There's one visible around russia: Ural as well

I discovered those lines months ago, there are actually 3, one close to Hawaii, one that cross Greenland, Brazil and other countries of america, and the last in Russia, Pakistan.

Also there is another curiosity about those lines, if you do a wall and you have one of those lines between the units, that wall is going to have a small bug, it dont really affects the gameplay.

You mean the walls being over the other layers? Yeah this always happens in Kazakhstan.

I like it, but i agree with vril on the mouse-wheel zoom being rough: It not as smooth as silverlight. Other then the mouse-wheel, i think i actually prefer html 5, it looks more crisp.

Lol I don't really like the modern 'crisp' look you see everywhere, I find it too simplistic. And the mouse scroll isn't just too rough but too slow.

People having problems with zooming in and out, is this because it's zooming too slowly or because it's just too rough/jumpy?
Also please specify your browser/environment.

Chrome, oldish but still quite good and functioning desktop running on W7 with plenty of memory (W8 UI is cancer).
The scrolling is both too jumpy and too slow, I cannot navigate anywhere near as good as I can on the silverlight map.

On silverlight you can use just the scroll wheel to navigate large areas, all you have to do is zoom out at a certain point and zoom in on another.

I am using Windows 7 32bit Core2Duo 2.26Ghz 4GB Ram Ati HD4670 512MB
I tested this map in Google Chrome and mozzila;

Moving: fast as it should (little jitter in mozzila)
Zooming: it is slow and disorienting it seams to me that you try to get something like zoom in CorelDraw to zoom it in center of mouse.
Viewing: everything is clear and sharp

Anyway full support for HTML5 version !

It is way smoother and zoom is focussed at the cursor. But the zoom acceleration is not as high as in SL.
So it is smooth now but slow.
